Great to find something free, entry to the pier is free and the RNLI lifeboat museum at the end of the pier is free and gives point to your pier walk.
Inside you climb a staircase so you can look down on the lifeboat from the gallery. I must have remembered pictures of Grace Darling in a lifeboat or thought lifeboats were like the ones on ships because I imagined an open top rowing boat. But the RNLI lifeboat was a huge two storey yacht with a covered top. I suppose if it's rescuing a dozen or more people from a cruise ship in a tsunami it's no use sending out the sort of boat which children row around the pond in the park.
Along the gallery are what look like first day covers. Two levels - quite a lot to read. Local hero Blogg who was a latter day equivalent of Florence Nightingale. Read about his rescues. If you are still interested, pop along to the museum devoted to him.
I had no time to see the film or browse in the shop. Worth a return visit.
