Getting Around London - By Boris Bike, Tourist Bus, London Transport or Walking

Getting around London, you have a choice. Take the traditional red bus, and the London underground trains, buying an unlimited travel card. Take a taxi - although the big black taxis still exist, others have jollier coloured designs and some carry advertisements.

   Tourists can enjoy views of the sights and a commentary on the open top sightseeing buses.
You've a choice. You can see on the side of The Original Tour bus the flags Union Jack, German, French, Spanish and more.

The Sightseeing Tour of London has its own unique identity. It calls its vehicle the Big Bus.

Or there's the Boris bike for hire, and cycle lanes along the edges of major road in the centre of London and suburbs.

Why do buses come in threes? The late author Jeremy Wyndham wrote a book about that. I remember the statistician in our family having lively debates with Jeremy.

  Buses always come in threes after you have given up waiting and decided to walk. The best bit about walking in London is the crossing at Oxford Circus where all the lights stop at once so you can cross the road diagonally instead of having to wait for two sets of lights, worse still three if you come out of the tube station at the wrong exit. Oh, the thrill of diagonal walking. It's like winning a race, or being given a free drink. Twice as much fun as it should be.
