Crowborough and Conan Doyle Statue

What do you see in the centre of Crowborough? Elementary, my dear, Watson. The statue is of Conan Doyle, author of the stories of detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Watson. The statue stands on Crowborough Cross, and you pass it effortlessly as you drive through Crowborough.

Why or when would you drive through Crowborough? It is south of London and you might pass it on your way to or from or bypassing Sevenoaks, Tunbridge or Tonbridge Wells.
