The Spanish Lottery At Christmas

Christmas time in Spain is associated with the lottery. The big one.

The Spanish lottery claims that they have participants in more than 100 countries. A Spanish friend informs me that the lottery started way back in the 1800s and has been played by generations of her family and many others.

The cost of a ticket is beyond the budget of most, so people buy shares in a ticket at local businesses which they trust.

People often buy these mini-tickets at various places, so instead of having only one chance to win a large amount, they have many chances to win a share of the big one, in Spanish el g o r d o .

On the day, families sit down around the table with many tickets spread out. The draw is spread out over several hours, and the big one takes place at an unpredictable time, it could be at the start, the end, or the middle, so you have to watch the whole event.

The Spanish lottery website warns you about spams.

Many other countries have lotteries. For example Singapore.
