Amelia Earhart Museum, her husband, flights and suitcases

Problem
You often get asked (at toastmasters speakers club impromptu speech sessions) who is your favourite character from history of films, or your hero or heroine?

Answer
I usually pick Helen Keller, but reading about Amelia Earhart I think she is a great example of a modern heroine, more so the feisty but fictional Jane Eyre.

Stories
An extraordinary woman. An extraordinary story.

It was not by chance that she met and married a publisher who ran her story. He was looking for a woman pilot to feature.

She did not just fly one amazing flight. She flew many.

She was not afraid to die. She knew the risks and was prepared to take them and said so. She was happy to fly and die, to die flying.

She was enormously popular and successful. She was a money spinner for herself and her husband. She had a whole business of clothes and luggage (suitcases) bearing her name.

If you wanted to follow an Amelia Earhart trail, these places would be on your list.

1 Amelia Earhart highway.
2 Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum in Aitchison, Kansas.
3 The ground, stone and plants memorial.
