Welsh Word For Today

Red dragon, symbol of Wales. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.

Problem
The dragon is the symbol of Wales. The Welsh and English words both begin with dra, but are pronounced differently. How do I remember how to say a Welsh Word? (Draig for dragon is pronounced Dry - g.)

Answer
When you see a double vowel, make up a sentence using the pronunciation.

For example

English - Welsh - Pronunciation of Welsh - Sentence
dragon - draig - dry-g - drag a dragon but dry a Welsh dragon's eye

Where did I learn the pronunciation? From Duolingo. The voice is computer generated. I learned that from a forum.
