In-Flight Photos - Any Troubles & Tricks Of The Trade TO GET GREAT PHOTOS!

A pink sky and a pink plane - it must be either sunrise or sunset. A Singapore Airlines 747 Jumbo Jet taken through the window of Economy Class. Photographer Trevor Sharot.

What did you do to get that photo? Any problems to overcome?

Yes. the main problem is reflections in the window glass. You just have to manoeuvre the camera. Ideally, shoot when the cabin is dark.

I just stuck the lens against the glass. The lens is at an angle with just one edge touching the glass. The portholes are not very big. You have to avoid the frame - unless you want it in your picture. Like any other picture, you try various things.

It helps to hold the lens still. I wiggle the camera about.

I was lucky with the lighting. You take lots of photos and hope to get at least one good one. (The technical term for this is bracketing.)

The lighting was perfect. I had no need to edit the picture. I haven't touched it.

The company I was working for at the time blew it up to six foot long. It was one of six or eight staff pictures over two floors of the office.
