Jaywalking, texting, headphones and New Laws In Honolulu, Hawaii

Map from Wikitravel.

Which headphones? Where to wear them?

Texting
Not in the street while texting and crossing the road in Honolulu. They have had so many pedestrian accidents that they have taken a tough line on texting.

Where Is It
Honolulu is the capital city of the big island, Oahu, of a complex of three or four main tourist islands collectively known as Hawaii. You may recall the song in South Pacific.

Tourism
The main attractions for tourists are staying in Hotels on Waikiki Beach, visiting Pearl Harbour, seeing the museums, driving around the damp, humid, rainy, city, visiting museums, driving around the various islands seeing the scenery, jungles and cliffside roads, enjoying shows of hula dancing. It's very different to anywhere else in America. Apart from Pearl Harbour, it doesn't feel like America at all and being so different is part of its charm.

We stayed in the beachside Halekulani hotel on stilts. Well organised with lovely big white bathrobes in the rooms. You could buy them to take home.

The other islands are more wild. We stayed at an all-inclusive beach hut hotel - a bit like Club Med - without a TV. Ironically as the annual national dance competition was on, it was the one occasion when I would have liked a TV.

Food and Souvenirs
Hawaiian shirts, beachwear, sarongs, pineapple, macadamia nuts, grass skirts, CDs.
