Tannins and quality in red wines and Chianti

Problem
How do you test for tannins?

Answer
Rub the tongue across the roof of your mouth.  The soft and sensitive area. Or the side of your cheeks. Your tongue sticks to the area and it feels funny.

How To Tell Quality
Does the taste last, linger? Swallow. Has the flavour disappeared, gone in two seconds? Basic quality. Average.

Last longer, four to six seconds?

Does it last for a minute? Long enough for you to smack your lips and say, 'that was good'?

The tehnical term is 'the finish'. A good one is called a 'long finish'.
