Do you drink hot or cold water? In Singapore, England and America

Singapore flag.

Wall Drug in the USA was and is famous for free iced water.

Singapore
Asians, especially those in Singapore, like to drink warm water.

I had invited a Singaporean friend to dinner in a restaurant in Singapore.

I asked the waiter for tap water.

The waiter asked me, "Wommacold?"

I thought it was a brand name. "No," I replied. "Tap water."

The waiter asked again, "Wommacold?"

I replied, "A jug. A glass. Tap water."

'Wommacold?"

My Singaporean Chinese friend was shaking her head in despair. Her eyes were like little bullets.
She said impatiently, "You are being asked hot or cold! Warm or cold?"

I could not reply. I started laughing hysterically, tears running from my eyes, unable to speak. I tried to hide behind a table napkin.

My Singaporean friend replied for me, "She wants cold water. No ice. I want warm water."

Eventually, I asked my friend, " How did you know I wanted cold water?"

"You always do. You always order differently from me. Everybody I know from London drinks cold water. Everybody I know from Singapore drinks warm water.

Overseas even the simplest transaction is an entertainment. I love travel. I love Singapore.
