Diwali Celebrations in Singapore, India, London, England and Worldwide






Diwali is the Hindu festival of light or lamps. Buddhists and Jains also celebrate.What's it all about? The triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. Your ancestors spirits coming back and being guided into your house by light. Family reunions.

Major celebrations are in India and Nepal but also other countries and cities with large Indian populations.

DIWALI IN SINGAPORE
In Singapore Diwali (or Deepavali, celebrated Tuesday November 6 2018) is a national holiday, with community clubs closed.

Toastmasters International clubs' meetings at these venues postponed or cancelled. The club presidents have been busy sending Diwali pictures with greetings on Whats App.

Where to see the Diwali lights? In Singapore in Little India and Serangoon.

Singapore's Indian Temples
Major Indian temples are in Little India and in Chinatown.
Indian temple near Mustafa's department store, near Little India MRT station and Farrer Park MRT station. This temple is easiest to find and surrounded by Indian restaurants and shops.

The children have been off school. In the private condos, their shrieks of laughter from the swimming pool have echoed around the skyscraper blocks.

In London an illuminated dove was switched on above the Katie statue in Harrow. The dove is a symbol of peace.
