Diwali welcome sign with illuminated elephants - and diwali dinners you can buy

Two features of Diwali signs are peacock feathers and elephants. Over the doorway of this community centre in Singapore you see the message Happy Deepavali and some peacock feathers.

Up the entry steps on both sides are illuminated elephant signs, again with peacock feathers.

Club Tampines West in Singapore.

Where to eat? In Singapore's Club Tampines West you will find a Starbucks and a McDonalds. Nearer the Tampines West MRT is a hawker centre - an indoor and/or outdoor food court. Most of them have stall selling a mixture of Chinese, Western, Malay and Indian food. For Indian food, go to Little India.

Tampines is on the East of the island of Singapore, near Changi airport. Little India is nearer the centre of the island.

In Indian Singaporean friend of mine told me, "Many community clubs in Singapore have Diwali dinners next weekend for their members and friends. Just google community clubs and diwali dinners. The price is usually about $8-10 and it is good value."

Diwali dinners and dinner dances are held around the world, at all sorts of places, from Indian associations to swimming clubs, in places such as Australia as well as Singapore and India.

Another friend told me: "You can buy food in the Tekka Centre in Little India. Shops all around sell costumes for your dinner."
Another place for clothes, sarees, and food, is the 24 hour Mustafa Centre, near Little India MRT and Farrer Park MRT.
