Don't zip up your backpack, zip it down - here's why

Problem
A member of my family lost a camera and accessories on a hill climb in New Zealand. Why? The two zip pulls had been pulled to the top. As the backpack was shaken around during the stepping and jolting, the zip pulls gradually shook themselves down. Eventually the camera fell out of the backpack.

Answer
In retrospect it was decided that it would have been safer to pull both the zip pulls to one side, so that they could not shake themselves anywhere as they were both already down.

Any other possibilities? Tie the two tabs together.

Tie the contents to the bag.

Lastly: load up your photos every night. Duplicate photos on your camera phone. Put a name sticker and name tag on your camera. Take a photo of your nametag before each new day's photo shooting.

Learn from other people's mistakes.
