the M4 from London to Wales. I always wondered what there was to see in Swindon. My husband, born and bred in London told me, the important thing to see in Swindon is the signpost to London. Now I am delighted to have a visual association with Swindon, something to say to enertain a passenger, and a reason to stop.

Diana Dors

England is filled with heritage plaques. You see them all over London. One I have just learned about is the plaque to Diana Dors, England's answer to Americas Marilyn Monroe.

She is a vamp with two boyfriends who are brothers. And there is a heist. What more do you want!

Sadly she died young, youngish. I remember being upset when she died, even more upset that her husband shot himself, leaving her youngest son alone. Sadly he just died.

Here's a picture of Diana Dors from the film Unholy Wife:

Diana Dors films included A Kid For Two Farthings.

My favourite film featuring Diana Dors is the rivetting plot of Passport to Shame, which also starred Herbert Lom as the baddie, and gave bit parts to Michael Caine and other famous names.
Don't let the title put you off. It is set in a UK brothel, where the character played by Diana Dors is trying to save her sister.

She was also in many TV series, on talk shows, and star of a This Is Your Life programme where she is reuinited with the two sons from an earlier marriage who are living in the USA and have been secretly flown over to meet her on the stage of the show.

Swindon and Steam
If you happen to pass Swindon, in Wiltshire, driving from London to Wales, or a stop on the railway from Paddington, you can visit the steam museum about Brunel and the railway he built. The railway went from London to Wales so people could catch his ship to the USA.

This forlorn passenger waiting on the platform depicted in the Steam Museum does not know about the Diana Dors statue.

The Swindon website has more information and different information from Wikipedia.
