UK Police Advice On Crime Prevention

In the UK, if you are burgled called 999 if it is an emergency, otherwise 101.

Forensics will call and send a report to the police.

Don't expect results in a couple of days.
You might hear in a few weeks time.
Call 101 to update.

Advice on security.
timer switches cost only 3 or 4 pounds sterling.
Use automated or fake CCTV on both front and back.
Leave timed lights in front and back.
Link timer to TV and radio.
Don't tag when you are away.

Burglars act quickly. Four of them in a car, one in each room, empty each drawer and cupboard, out in four minutes.

If they leave a mess, it's a burglary of a house whose occupants movements are unknown.

A burglar has no need to hurry if they knows you are away on holiday, such as your window cleaner or gardener, or one of their friends, or somebody who heard them talk about your being away,

In Harrow, they are likely to come down from Hertfordshire.

They would not put your goods in a local pawn shop but one elsewhere.

However, still check. Anything is worth a try. You never know your luck.

Security might help, often but not always. Improves your chance, though not guaranteed to work.
You could have plenty of security and still get burgled.

One family in a large house had security cameras to catch anybody approaching.

And any car stopping outside.

The burglars stopped their car around the corner. They leaped over four garden fences. They shinned up onto a flat roof at the back. From there they got into an upstairs window.

Do not leave a top window adjar for ventilation. They can prise it open.

Some people say you should lock internal doors. Others say, the more you lock, the more the burglars will break.

When my family was burgled, the burglars broken open both snap-shut points of jewellery boxes and boxes which looked like jewellery boxes despite the keys being in the locks.
