When you are travelling, it might be helpful to know if somebody is swearing, or making an improper suggestion, in order to avoid them.
However, I see no reason for learning swear words in another language. It is the quickest way to lose friends and respect from people who could be useful, restaurant staff, hotel staff, bank staff, doctors, bystanders.
I am a teacher. I managed to get though most of my life wihout needing any swear words.
As an English tutor I can't afford to swear, nor even use a siilar sounding nonsense word every time I drop a pencil. It is too complicated to explain to a Japanese child who is learning English.
Just think what you would want a child to say to the school head teacher.I really love it. I adore it. If you want silence when you are trying to photograph a songbird without frightening it, you just say to bystanders, 'sh', or, 'quiet, - now!'
I recall when my husband and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary at the Souffle restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane. The romance was ruined by the noisy conversation of two young women, with two young men, one of whom kept saying, My Wife ... (referrring to his absent wife). The two young women who we presumed to be escorts, were showing off their knowledge of swear words in different languages.
That really put me off swear words, especially swear words in public places.
You are unlikely to hear swear words if you come to a toastmasters meeting.
