abba - father

Aviv/Aviva - spring (season)

Ben - son (as in Ben Hur, Benjamin)

birah - beer

bet - house (as in Beth-lehem, house of bread)

baruch - blessed (also a name, such as Baruch Spinoza, the Dutch philosopher)

bevakash - please/you're welcome (as in please don't mention it)

Canadi - Canadian

degel - flag

Dovid - David (Arabic is Dawood)

echud - one

El - God (as in the names Elizabeth, Elijah)

erev - evening

gadol - big;  ha-gadol The Great

ha - the

ha-zeh - this

hu - he

he - she

ima - mother

kudosh - holy

laila - night 

laila tov - good night, literally night good

lehem - bread

lo - not/don't

ma (muh) - what? (as in ma zeh? what is this)

magen Dovid - shield of David, six-point star, symbol on the flag of Israel)

magen Dovid Adom - red star first aid or ambulance service, equivalent of Red Cross

mazel tov - good luck, literally luck good/congratulations

mayim - water

melech - king

Otobus - bus/tram

rosh - head/leader 

salat - salad

shabbat - sabbath (starts Friday dusk - Saturday

shabbat shalom - a good/peaceful Sabbath (said Friday night and Saturday)

shalom - peace/hello (as in Jerusalem, and Arabic Salaam)

tel - hill

Tel Aviv - Hill of Spring

todah - thanks (todah robah - thank you very much)

tost - toast

tov - good

udonai - our God

uni (pronounced uh-knee) - I

utu - you

ve - and

yamin - right (as in Ben Yamin = son (of my) right (hand)

Yeled - boy / yuldu - girl
