Bahrain - the pearl of the islands

Flag of Bahrain.

Bahrain consists of several natural and man made islands and was known for pearl fishing. You can buy pearl jewellery in the malls. Other options include going pear diving with a company. You end up with your own shells to prize open and hope for a pearl. I prefer to have them ready drilled and mounted in jewellery, but I can see that diving for pearls is a novelty not offered on most holiday destinations.

Now you can visit a for with impressive inside arches and see the ruins of an ancient city alongside.

I spoke to a man from Bahrain who belongs to one of the oldest Toastmasters Clubs in Bahrain going back to the 1960s, I believe he said.

I looked at Wikipedia and wikiyoyage and tripadvisor.

They have a toastmasters club.

The items I saw on their Facebook page were pearls in gold settings.

When I went to Japan I bought grey pearls in silver and for years I was sent a catalogue. Pearls from Bahrain, or pearls from Japan, or maybe both, if you have a birthday or anniversary coming up. Within a year you should have both. Something for different tastes and budgets, or to match different outfits.

Wind tower. To cool down buildings. I love this.

Ancient tree of life, survived centuries without water. Rather remote but an interesting novelty and subject for discussion.

the main landmark is the fort with the old ruins beside.
