Chinese New Year Decorations

Tanglin Club, Singapore.

Notice the orange-red colours, the orchids, the Chinese paper lanterns, the fans, the circles, the spheres, the hanging scrolls. In Singapore the majority of the people are ethnically Chinese from various groups, many from different regions of China inheriting assorted dialects and cooking styles. The Tanglin Club was founded by the British but is increasing its Chinese members.

The decorations as in the rest of Singapore reflect seasonal festivals from around the world. Seasonal drinks and foods are served in the restaurants. Packaged items are sold from markets in the halls.  Festive meals or take away food and souvenirs can be admired and bought, from the tea lounges' cabinets and temporary kiosks.

To get into the club you would need to be or know a member and be accompanies as a guest, or make an appointment to view the club as a prospective member. Clubs around the world have reciprocal arrangements with clubs which have premises in other countries. For example, country clubs, city clubs, tennis clubs, cricket clubs, journalists' clubs, military clubs.  You can go online to find the reciprocal clubs of your home club. Ask them for a letter of introduction to the overseas club of your choice when you are taking a trip. For example, the Tanglin club has bedrooms, like a hotel.

Covid-19 might cause a change in arrangements. You used to simply sign in. Nowadays you are met by a door person who ensures you have a temperature check, sign in, give your membership number or host's details, your contact phone for tracing and so on.
