Dengue - dangerous but is it deadly?

Dengue can be deadly. The Singapore authorities have increased anti-mosquito fogging from once a week to twice a week in the area I know.

My family's home in Singapore was visited by a government inspector who checked plant pots on a balcony and for leakage under the kitchen sink.

Dengue affects Asia and South America, locals and ex pats and travellers. A Japanese friend of mine caught it when she was out playing golf wearing shorts. She went to retrieve a golf ball from long grass and got bitten.

Another friend, an Indian, was ill for weeks  with dengue in India. He had a series of problems afterwards, including diabetes, and after a Covid-19 vaccination which he blames, he lost an eye.

Under Covid-19 phase 3, says the government website, more people are working from home. The Philippines has an awareness month in June since 1998.

Why should anybody care? Why should it concern travellers, people at home, you, or I, or the government or the building management?

It is no fun, and rather worrying, having an unsightly rash, bleeding, vomiting and diarrhea, pains, fever and fatigue. It stops workers and work, including work from home, and social life. It affects everyone essential, such as doctors and nurses, teachers, food suppliers and transport staff.

You cannot give blood for six months afterwards.
