The Memorial in Wales to the X-Troop Secret Jewish Commandos

What an unlikely place to find a memorial to Jewish WW2 commandos. You wouldn't even know they were Jewish. Unless you had read the book about them.

The book X-Troop, the secret Jewish Commanods or World War is by Dr Leah Garett.

I was reading about Anne Frank, came across a book written by her schoolmate who survived Belsen.

Holocaust Memoirs of a Bergen-Belsen Survivor & Classmate of Anne Frank.[

That lead onto other books by survivors. Then this book. Finally, the surprise about the memorial in Wales, at the place where they trained.

You can see the little crosses and stars of David left by well-wishers.

The memorial is in Aberdyfi, Wales. It was installed in May 1999. The village is called Aberdovey in English.

The Song

The village featured in a song, an old folk song called the Bells of Aberdyfi. Legend says that the village was protected by rising tides by a dam, but the gates were not shut. The negligent party was either a renegade son or a young man in pursuit of a young lady instead of doing his duty. At low tides you can see two natural parallel ices of rock running into the water and a petrified forest which brings alive your imagination of the old tale or your own version of it..

Aber means estuary or river mouth. The dyfi is a river. Where could the WW2 trainees have been hiding out in such a tiny place. I dare say the book explains.
