Many people prefer to fly overnight on long night flights. That way the passenger can have a full day at work or on holiday. Travel to the airport outside rush hour when it is stress-free, quicker, less likely to make you miss your flight or miss time to change money and rest in the airport lounge.

Hotels are the reverse, at least business hotels. They are occupied during the week.

Occasionally a museum is free to visit on a Sunday or one day a week.
Shop Around
If you can combine the two options, travelling midweek, but staying in the city at weekends, you might make good use of your allocated funds.
Book Fast
Often the aircraft has an allocation of a limited number of seats in economy. First come, first served. So to be sure of a deal, when you see it, make up your mind. Know your preferred options before you go online.
Sometimes it helps to have two computers or two pages open, so you can get back to the best deal in a hurry, after checking elsewhere.
