American and British Words From Today

 An American asked, what is an HGV. Here goes:

UK - USA

1 HGV = heavy goods vehicle / large lorry - truck

2 HGV - truck and trailer/semi/ articulated truck/18 wheeler/big rig

3 lorry - truck

4 lorry driver - truck driver

While we're at it, a few more handy words:

2 (car) bonnet - hood

3 (car) boot - trunk

4 car boot sale (usually in a field or car park) - garage sale (usually in a garage)

5 car park - parking lot

6 high street - main street

8 pavement - sidewalk

7 road - pavement

9 petrol - gas

10 garage - gas station
