Baggage handling (Luggage in the UK)

Colourful suitcases at Heathrow airport. Photo by Angela Lansbury.

The whole system of waiting for four pieces of luggage to all arrive separately is ridiculous. You should have containers, one per seat, or family, with all your luggage grouped together. Also, add coloured tags to stop people going off with the wrong luggage.

My husband says, how would you have enough colours for two hundred families?

Your luggage all goes off together on the conveyor belt from check-in, in the family group. How does it get separated afterwards? Maybe, offloading from the plane.

Luggage packing tips

1 If you travel regularly, keep a packing list taped to the back of your wardrobe door. (Americans would say closet door.)

2 Photograph your luggage before leaving home, showing colours and brand names. If the airport or airline or hotel lose your luggage, you can show the lost property person the picture, or use it to fill out the form stating colour and brand of your lost luggage.
