Trump Street, in London, England, and Memories of The Night Watchmen

I saw this street name in London, England, and had to record it. Why is it called Trump Street?

I didn't know why. But the road was closed.  I passed by Trump Street in Cheapside on a walking tour which started from Guildhall Art Gallery, near Bank station, and ended near Blackfriars underground station..

Another walking tour company gave some historical dates and suggestions as to how the street was given its name. My favourite suggestion is that it was named after a nearby tavern called The Trumpeter.

A nearby alley was the Trump alley. The shops sold trumpets, used by the night watchmen.

The watchmen had to watch at night, and day, for invading armies, robbers, and fires. They could signal to each other and awaken the inhabitants.  Later the watchmen made announcements in the daytime, and played musical tunes.

The nearby pub has gone, and the entire street was destroyed by German bombs in WW2. But it has now been rebuilt.

Nothing to do with American President Trump. But it is certainly a street which brings an American President to mind.
