Battle of Britain Day 15 Sept 1940, commemorated 14 Sept 2014 at RAF Museum, Hendon

Churchill said, "Never have so many owed so much to so few". Articles on the BBC website, the RAF website and Wikipedia explain the background, how many planes were lost by both sides on the day, how the war progressed, the relationship between the navy, the airforce and Hitler's plans for ground invasion, morale, propaganda and lies on both sides about losses and gains - all fascinating.

See the Battle of Britain Hall at the RAF Museum, Graeme Park Way, London NW9 5LL. (Hendon.)

Learn about the women in the WAAF - The Girls in Blue, the Lancaster bombers and Spitfires.

Events for the commemoration include a Spitfire flypast (weather permitting). Also lunchtime music and guided tours.
