Music Indoors and Outdoors At The Horniman Museum in London, England

Problem
At the Horniman Museum, where to go first, indoors or out?

Answer
Up to you. I started outdoors on a sunny day and came across the Sound Garden by chance. I had noticed it on the map but thought it was either waterfalls, no - none, or wind chimes, no. The sound garden is huge instruments.

You can hear them from far away. Sounds a bit like those ice cream vans which used to play music to alert housing estates to the afternoon arrival of the ice cream.

The xylophone is a huge series of metal plates - must be rainproof and non-rusting - what are they made of? The hammer or banger is attached by a chain, of course, so nobody makes off with it nor drops it on their toe.

Speaking of ice cream, I saw people walking out of the park into the street eating ice cream. Where was it from? There's an ice cream kiosk in the open near the entrance to the park and the entrance to the museum.

The Horniman Museum cafe has a good variety of food and drinks, fruit, juices, cakes, salads, sandwiches.

For a description of the indoor musical instruments gallery, see my other posts about the Horniman.
