Sewing on holiday: no sewing machine, hand sewing tips, or make a holiday wardrobe, hire a sewing machine for a day or week

If you don't have a sewing machine (or cannot thread it), you can sew a neat line if you are careful and use a back stitch. Back stitching makes a neat line on the surface of the cloth. This stitch can easily be made neat if you have even weave threads and can count the number of threads. The stitch can be used to sew a straight line, but also around curves.

You can use back stitch to take up a torn hem, which is often sewn by machine using a zigzag stitch. Any garment, or curtain, cushion, a doll's clothes, a torn tote bag, or other items can be sewn in this way.

In the UK in central London and several parts of England you can hire a sewing machine, as well as many other objects, for a day or a week.

In other places such as Scotland, Canada and the USA the same idea is called a tool library.
