My family flew to Indonesia and back on Garuda Airlines. The plane had tinted windows instead of blinds. You operated the tint with your finger tips like those table lamps and light switches which are operated by touch.
Apparently the cabin crew can over-ride and open or shut all the window shades at once. The transparency can open when taking off and landing. You can use the over-ride to shut all the windows at night so people can sleep.
This saves staff time and effort marching the length of the plane to check if anybody has forgotten or not heard or not understood and needs to open or shut the visibility.
