Their website proudly proclaims it is Europe's tallest moving viewing Platform. Brighton i360 gives a view over Brighton. And miles beyond in both, all, directions.
You pay to go up to the top. In the sea view side you can view the wind farm which I noticed on the horizon when driving along the sea front.
From the ground level it is just a large white pencil beside the beach, across the road from the traditional and modern hotels and blocks for apartments. It is unlike any of the other architecture. I can see why locals might have objected to it at the planning stage.
Apparently it is quite popular. Although, perhaps not quite as popular as the developers hoped it would be.
My husband shrugs. Many things are like that. People over-estimate the numbers and success to generate enthusiasm and funding. Prices go up or visitors go down.
But now it is there. Part of Brighton. Not so much a sore thumb. More like a vertical white pencil. At the top is the rotating disc, a bit like a donut.
You can see the top, aerial view, on their website.
My friends who live in the Brighton and Hove area told me they had been up and enjoyed the view. On the land side you see across Brighton to the Downs, hills which are green in September.
