I had to sign a form saying the conference centre was not responsible for any accidents to me or others caused by the electronic wheelchair. If I didn't sign, they would not lend me the wheelchair.
The wheelchair was wonderful. It went slowly down slopes, and quicker on long straight paths. Indoors and outdoors around the Conference centre.
The hand controls were simple, but I was confused. I was shown that you could go forwards pulling the left hand lever back towards you. (While steering, if necessary with your right hand, more usually with both hands on the big handles.) Push the tiny lever forwards to go backwards.
However, you could also go forwards and backwards with the right hand lever which worked the opposite way. Press forward to
Forwards, backwards to go backwards.
You need to go slowly around corners. Especially indoors. You are liable to go forward into walls. Doors. Chair legs. Tables.
And people.
