Statues and water features in Singapore at Clementi, and meaning of the name Clementi

In case you are wondering about the name Clementi, which comes from the Clementi family in Singapore. Two members of the family could be the person the area was named after. Since I don't know much about either, I need go no further. But a bust of one of them is here.

Mr Clementi. 

Clementi is an Italian surname, originally popular in the Venice region, a patronymic (child of a father called Clemens). Clemens was from the Latin for merciful or mild.

Art and Art Friend at Clementi in Singapore

 Art Friend in Singapore has more than one branch. The displays are on racks.

My husband first went to the branch near our old favourite stationery and craft shop which is near the art college. Then he googled the directions and found a second branch at Clementi which was nearer. 

Clementi has a smart shopping mall above the MRT underground railway station. Alongside is another more industrial mall. Fairprice supermarket is on ground level. On a Sunday, a day off for many people, the place was thronging.

 I went to Art Friend for pens and paints as well as ribbons.

The Loyalty Card

Their loyalty card costs you money. But it proved profitable for us. My husband made two trips, then a third trip for his large project - his model of a railway station which requires lots of white base boards, cutting tools.

On the second trip I went along and bought pens and water colour pencil sets and ribbons. After three trips in two days we had recovered the cost and were starting to see a benefit.
