New and old restaurants in Hatch End, Pinner

Hatch End is a sub-division of Pinner. Hatch End's high street, the Uxbridge Road, is a just along from Pinner. Pinner had the historic black and white buildings including a couple of ancient pubs, connections with Heath Robinson, whose museum is in the Park opposite Pinner Metropolitan line station.

Hatch End station is on the Watford to Euston line. The high street has art deco buildings and its association go back to Mrs Beeton whose famous cookery book taught us all to write recipes starting with the ingredients and then listing the actions to take.

Hatch End is a hotbed of restaurants, especially Italian restaurants, started by 'Mr Fellini'.


Bandaa is urdu for servant or beloved.

Problem
How do you find my favourite restaurant in Pinner?

This is Pinner, looking downhill towards the station on the left, which is beyond the

High Street leading to the church. On the left immediately to the left of the picture foreground is St Luke's.

Looking uphill, the sign of Osteria Modigliani is on the right. Opposite, on the other side of the road, is Lidl supermarket.

Before or after you have lunch, you might want to look around Pinner.  If you come out of the station and cross the road you are at the entrance to Pinner Park. On a fine day, it's very pleasant to walk across to the pond and the aviary. Walk around to the other side of the pond to see the building housing the Heath Robinson Museum. Heath Robinson was a cartoonist who drew amusing complicated contraptions. Even if you don't have the time or money to visit the museum, you would enjoy looking at the bookshop and maybe buying a postcard or book or two.

Back on the Station side of the road, instead of turning left towards Osteria Modigliani, go up the other street ahead of you. On the right is the old Victory pub, named after Nelson's victory, and now a restaurant. On the left is another old pub in Tudor style.

The Bizarre Coffin In The Sky

At the top of the High Street is a church with the coffin in the sky, a coffin in the middle of an obelisk. Why? Because of a will saying about somebody being underground. To get around the will, the coffin was kept above ground.

Pinner has been in quite a few films which you might have seen in cinemas or on television. I like to think of it as pretty Pinner. 

From Pinner, you can take the train to Harrow on the Hill and if you have the time and energy walk uphill to see Harrow on the Hill, pass the Castle pub, and the quaint shops and the old school Harrow, where Churchill went to school. In summer the boys wear straw hats. The school has a museum and museum tours and other events. 

If you take the train into London, you can stop at Baker Street for Madame Tussaud's or the Sherlock Holmes Museum. As Jonson said, "Whoever is tired of London is tired of life."

Pinner Festive Lights On Gables And Trees

Pretty Pinner, historic Pinner. Pinner, Middlesex, a suburb of North West London. At the bottom of the road is Pinner station on the Metropolitan line if you want to visit Pinner by train. Pinner is also proud of the newly opened Heath Robinson Museum in Pinner Park, which is opposite the railway station.

Pinner Fair, Wed May 2015

Pinner Fair is a tradition which has been going on for centuries, since the 1300s. I had to look that up in Wikipedia which has a handy entry on Pinner. Historic Pinner enjoys entertainment and extra opportunities for food and drink. In the past sometimes a few shopkeepers have felt that the fair stopped traffic and was bad for business. However, it's only one day a year and an opportunity. 

Where is Pinner? On London's Metropolitan line. A fine historic high street. Associations with world-famous historic characters. Nelson's daughter lived in Pinner and is buried in the cemetery within walking distance.

The church at the top of the main historic street has the coffin in the sky projecting - see it from the road outside.

If you have time or tire of the crowds, take a break in Pinner Park at the lower end of the High street. It has a lake with aquatic life and an aviary and a cafe. Also the Heath Robinson museum where you can see cartoons and buy them as well as books and postcards and souvenirs.

In previous years stalls have sold English food and French food.

The High street has several eating places, coffee bars, fast food, pizza, pubs and restaurants. You may wish to note the names and numbers and book to come back on another occasion. Those in historic buildings include: Friends, Zizi in the Old Victory pub. See TripAdvisor for reviews of restaurants.
