Coffee Club's Date Scones - and hungry birds

 The seaside Coffee Club faces the beach and the forested extinct volcano at the end of the peninsular at Tauranga on the North Island of New Zealand.

We enjoyed the novelty of the date scone.

Also the company of several well-fed birds keen to eat more.

Drive along the harbour and beach to the triangular green peak sticking out of the water at the end of the peninsular. It is Mount Manganui. A cluster of delightful shops entice you in. We had a date scone containing whole dates at the Coffee Corner.

I stopped at the Augustini dress shop. 

Then the next shop to grab my attention was the waffle shop where the girl sat making conical waffles for ice cream.

Which Winery To Visit In New Zealand

Let's get the lie of the land first. Fly into Christchurch on north of the south island. Yes, recovering from the earthquakes with new buildings. Flights into different cities can vary in price. If money is important, shop around.

North Island
Wellington is the admin capital. Auckland is the big bustling business city.
From Wanaka go to Central Otago, the wine region. Lots of places to visit.

Wine Island
Yes, there is a third island. North of north island.

South of south island is the Otago wine region.
Every place has a story.
Archangel - from the area where two women were imprisoned in WWII, a mutual history the teenage girls discovered they had in common when they met later overseas. The ladies' grandchildren now run the winery.

Bendigo
Rippon - sounds like Ripon in the North of England.
Wild Earth Winery not far from the gold mining center, and a gold meal winning winery.
