Green Beer Day In the USA and Green Theme Decor, Drinks and Food

Green beer, USA.

I was looking for photos of green beer, when  discovered that in Miami, Ohio, USA, they have had a green beer day. Yes, it was inspired by St Patrick's Day. With the Spring break dates and St Patrick's Day moving around so that they no longer coincided, somebody came up with the idea of having a green beer day during the spring break. So then, you had two green beer days, St Patrick's Day and the Green Beer day.

My friend in Singapore enthused about green beer. However, when I read that it turned your tongue green, I went off the idea.

What about the American Green Beer Day. It sounded like innocent fun. Plus a commercial opportunity for selling green clothes. Plus, of course, beer. However, starting at 5 am, under age driving, and an alcohol related death. No way. No wonder there was official concern and interference.

Meanwhile, if you want to wear green and try out green beer at home, on St Patrick's Day, or Green beer day, or as a practice in advance any day, with food as well as drink so you don't drive or get drunk, why not.

By the way, the event started in Miami university, which is not in Florida, but in Oxford, Ohio. (Yes, not Miami, Florida, and not Oxford, England.)

One bar was selling for one US dollar a shot (small drink or addition to a drink or cocktail) of green jello (generic US term for jelly, from the brand Jello) which turns any drink green.

The US bars seem to have a plentiful supply of food options. What was green?

Egg Museums, Egg Restaurants, Easter Eggs, Hot Cross Buns, in Asia, Australia, England, Europe And the USA - where to eat and learn to cook and decorate eggs

The Egg Museum, Ukraine.

Egg Museum, Austria. Wikipedia.

In Singapore the decorations and supermarket gifts have changed from Xmas to Chinese New Year, in Fairprice in Bujit Panjang.

In Australia you can buy Easter eggs and hot cross buns in supermarkets and stores, such as Coles and Woolworths.

When I read the news on Google last night, January 6th, I was sent articles to read on making stollen and hot cross buns.

January 6th is celebrated as Christmas day in several European countries (with January 5th being Christmas Eve. I discovered this when visiting my parents in Marbella, Spain, where they had a one bedroom flat.

January 6th, my diary tells me was epiphany. What is epiphany? The appearance of the three wise men. Some sources say Shepherds, others say kings, others say wise men.

The word epiphany, which I checked in the Oxford dictionary online, is from the Greek meaning to reveal. Revealing the birth to the gentiles, the non-Jews in distant lands.

If you like eggs, you might be interested in egg museums.

Austria has an egg museum.

Ukraine has a museum devoted to decorated Easter eggs. The museum itself is egg shaped.

The museum is called Psyanka.

Quiz: Stay where Freddie Mercury and Boy George Stayed in Switzerland - Maybe Next Year?

Freddie Mercury statue in Montreux, Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. Fans leave flowers.

I was just check on some facts about my earlier posts on Freddie Mercury. I had a comment that the Freddy Mercury statue in Montreux Switzerland is on Lake Geneva, not Lake Leman. I looked it up and found that Lake Leman is the French name for Lake Geneva. I clarified that in the original post.

As I hunted through verious websites which mentioned the statue, I found a 5 bedroom property you can rent which Freddie Mercuty stayed in several times, and so did other well known musicians such as Boy George.

Boy George Colourful Costume

The place where Freddie Mercury and Boy George stayed is called The Duck House. I see no ducks. But it imagine at one time either wild or domesticated ducks were there. If you find out let me know.

Many more musicians and famous people have stayed in Montreux. Composer Tchaikovsky, singer Joan Sutherland, David Bowie, the Shah of Persia, to name only a few. (More on the Wiki article on Montreux.)

Also in the area: see photogenic Chateau de Chillon on the waterfront. And another chateau.

Châtelard Castle, Montreux, Switzerland.

As I write this on 'unlucky' April 13 2020, nobody in the world is travelling or planning far ahead. At least one can make a mental note to see and photograph Freddie Mercury's statue if we ever get to Montreux.

Freddie Mercury's Montreux Memorial Day is the first weekend in September.

Planted rye is harvested in Ohio, USA, to extract pollen.  No bees are involved but a machine harvester.

What might it do for you? They claim it has many benefits. See their website graminex.com

I tried their pink drink which contains rye flower pollen extract and strawberry and is supposed to help with colds!

October 12 - Columbus Day, Spanish National Day, For Spanish Speaking Countries and people worldwide

Problem
Where can I go and what can I do to celebrate on October 12th?

Answer
Columbus Day is celebrated in Spain, the USA and several other countries. It is also called Day of Spanish, and is celebrated as day of the Spanish Military.

In Madrid the King and the Queen watch a military parade, the usual thing, with colourful uniforms and marching bands. My favourite item is the goat which is the symbol of the Spanish legion. I've seen pictures of a white goat with a red fancy blanket over its back, as well as a black-faced goat wearing a blue covering.

Statues of Columbus include one in Barcelona.

The Monument to Columbus in La Rambla, a major street in Barcelona, Spain.

Miniature of the Columbus monument in the garden miniatures, about 17 miles outside Barcelona, Spain.

At the opposite end of the scale, the biggest Columbus monument is in Puerto Rico. It was turned down by several cities in the USA but welcomed by Puerto Rico where it is hoped it will regenerate tourism.

The Columbus statue, called Birth of the New World, in Puerto Rico, seen close=up.

If you wish to travel around Spain I recommend staying at the Paradores, hotels built by the government in converted historic buildings to encourage tourism to and develope areas in all parts of the country. The Paradores are good value and the restaurants serve regional food. I have stayed in several on more than one trip. My favourites were the one in Seville and the one on the frontier with Portugal. If you can't afford a room, or they are fully booked, try to book a meal.

Portugal has a similar system of Pousadas.
To learn Spanish for free, start by using Duolingo.

Spanish speaking countries

Over in North America many cities are called Columbus.
Statues of Columbus are in New York's Central Park and Providence, Rhode Island. The statue in Central Park has been desecrated with the words Say No To Hate, which seems ironic. A statue in New England was also desecrated.

Spanish is widely spoken in North America. You will see Spanish signs in many public buildings. The name Columbus is popular for cities and towns, in Ohio, Georgia, and Mississippi and more.

I looked at the city of Columbus, Ohio and noted that it had a German quarter which would be a good place to visit for Oktoberfest next September-October. I was looking for a statue of Columbus and came across something amazing and amusing, what I think of as the basket building, headquarters of the Longaberger building in Newark, Ohio. As a keen photographer, I would put that on my list of places to visit on my next trip around the USA and Ohio.

Building in Columbus, Ohio, USA

A giant statue of Columbus, named The Birth Of The New World, has been installed in Puerto Rico and is predicted to increase tourism. That statue is gigantic, taller than the one of Christ the Redeemer in Rio, and taller than the Statue of Liberty. Several cities in the USA rejected it but the Puerto Ricans are delighted to have it.

If you can't get to any of these, you could celebrate Spain at home with a trip to a Spanish restaurant or a meal at home with Sangria or a Spanish wine such as Rioja or a c a v a, a sweet white wine, the Spanish equivalent of Champagne.

Evil Knievel, Evel Knievel, Motorbike Museums and Stunts

Problem
Daredevil and stunt rider Evil Knievel attempted to ride over a bus and a canyon. Where can I see Evil Knievel, motorcycles and stunts? Actually his name sounds like evil Knievel, but it's really Evel Knievel. However, I reckon Evil Knievel is amusing and apr. I laughed out loud when I read about his earliest attempts at stunts:

Wikipedia reports on his early career: "Knievel was fired when he made the earth mover do a motorcycle-type wheelie and drove it into Butte's main power line.[8] The incident left the city without electricity for several hours."

Answers
1 You can see online or visit in person the Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, Kansas.

2 Evel Knievel has been featured in exhibitions at the Harley Davidson Museum.
The Harley-Davidson Museum is a North American museum near downtown, MilwaukeeWisconsin celebrating the more than 100-year history of Harley-Davidson motorcycles.[2]

3 Evel Knievel has featured in The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum which is an offshoot of the American Motorcyclist Association, recognizing individuals who have contributed to motorcycle sportmotorcycle construction, or motorcycling in general. It also displays motorcyclesriding gear, and memorabilia.
The museum is located in PickeringtonOhio, United States.

Stunts as parts of films, or as standalone entertainments include:
Tightrope walking including over Niagara Falls. (See museums at Niagara Falls.)
In Niagara Falls, Canada, also see the Houdini museum. His stunts included getting out of trapped places and handcuffs under water.
See Aircraft stunts in films (movies) on YouTube, and stunt planes displayed at aircraft museums.
See horseback riding stunts.
Modern stunts include leaping from buildings.

Looking For Something New? A Laugh? Cartoon Museum in London, England and Ohio, USA

Are you looking for a laugh? Looking for something new to do in London? I was looking for something new to do in London, en route to the chocolate shops and events for this week's Chocolate Week in London. I remembered the Cartoon Museum.

Goodness, what a lot to see and do. The website has links to past and future exhibitions children's activities, films of clay models, animated Japanese manga and other animated short films created by children. Alice in Wonderland and information about illustrator T e n n i e l who was a well-known personality of his day and illustrated Punch magazine.

Finally a link to a website about the Ohio university collection and cartoons in America about WWI, then known as the Great War because they had not yet had WWII.

PINNER, HEATH ROBINSON (in a building in the park)
http://westhousepinner.com/heath-robinson-2/

Here is my self-portrait which is true to life with the blonde hair, blue eyes, red lipstick, red lipstick on my cheeks, and the black hat forming a halo. Note the cartoon signature. The dots in the letters a at the start and end of my name have made the eyes. Curves above each a represent eyebrows. The g in the middle descends into my nose.

Below is a sketch I did. I turned a treble clef into a violinist. The musician is self-absorbed, involved in playing the music, not looking at the audience, like so many musicians. I learned to make my signature into a picture from a fellow artist I met at a Toastmasters International club meeting in Singapore at the YMCA.

Your screen might not show it, but in the drawing I have edged my blonde hair with gold. This drawing does not flatter me. I do not do flattery in illustrations. I have not yet learned how. I do character.
