What to do on the train, the plane, or travelling: knitting snoods and novel writing

What can you do on a stationery or moving vehicle? Never waste a minute. You can enjoy people watching. Take a selfie or a photo of people or places. That would suit you if you are an observer of life. If you are creative, knit or write a novel.

Nuts About Knitting?
Such a pity to waste time. Here's my new friend who doesn't waste time. She recommends that you do crochet or knitting on the train like she does.

How To Knit A Snood
She is making a snood. What's that? A circular scarf which sits around your neck to keep you warm, add colour, finish your outfit. How do you knit it? Easy-peasy. You just keep adding rows of thick knitting or crochet until you have a long scarf. Then connect the ends. (Oversew for security? I'm sure a guide or a fellow knitter can tell you. She gave me a tip. You have to twist one end.

You end up with a warm device to wear around your neck. What's the advantage over a scarf? It doesn't fall off. You don't end up with one end longer than the other because it keeps slipping or yu stand with one shoulder higher than another. It looks neat.

Christmas Presents
She is knitting hers for friends for Xmas. You can make them for charity.

What is a Snood?
When I researched snood on line I discovered that snoods started as loose large hairnets to cover hair, for religious reasons, or when women went out to work in wartime in the 1940s, for hygiene and health and safety. Now the snood seems to have morphed or changed into a twisted circular scarf, in muted or bright colours.

Novel Reading
But we are not all into knitting, even if we would like to do that. What else can you do on the train? In the olden days people would read a novel or university course book on the train. War and Peace. The Complete Works of Shakespeare.

Novel Writing
Now the month of November is for writing novels, a few hundred words a day all the month until you have finished your novel. See the website.

In most countries nowadays you can read the free newspaper. They sometimes carry a crossword.

I use duo lingo and learn languages. That's the easiest option. Next year I must write a novel. The year after that, knit a snood. Maybe write a novel entitled, The Girl Who Knitted The Snood. The Girl On The Train has been done. But I could have a best seller with The Girl Who Knitted The Snood.
