The Bronte Trail, Haworth, Yorkshire, England
Our first (historically) stop was their birthplace. Just a plaque.
You can find a good summary of the places on Wikivoyage under Haworth with a condensed list.To reach Bronte country by car, you drive up the M1, motorway one, the first one which was built, going north from London.

Lavender Farms in London and Yorkshire, the USA and worldwide
English lavender is well known and I buy lemon and lavender to try to discourage insects and mosquitos. Many chemists (pharmacies) in the UK sell one or more of several British brands.
In the front garden of a friend of a friend in Yorkshire, I saw this thriving lavender.
Where next after the Bronte's Haworth?
On my wish list, going north there's the lavender farm. After a long weekend, Thursday to Sunday, doing a whole trail of the Bronte sites, as well as walking and railways, we drove off south to London. However, with more time and on my next trip I shall make this Yorkshire lavender place a priority. But I noted that you pay to visit the lavender gardens. You might just want to see the shop, buy plants andor cosmetics, and eat in the cafe.
Just type in your home location to find lavender fields near you.
In the north of England, the sunny summer days last longer. But the winter days are shorter. The long light lasts in other northern European countries too, such as going to the north of Finland to see the Northern Lights.
In London, in my front garden, lavender which had bloomed earlier in the year was already dying back. But fresh lavender was sold in Morrison's supermarket. The supermarket chain had started in Yorkshire in the north of England.

Buon Apps Italian restaurant in Yorkshire
Buon Apps is Italian short for good appetite a good wish before eating. The restaurant is on two floors beside the gushing river at the weir. Down stairs you can eat indoors, in the covered glass sided conservatory, or outdoors. Upstairs is more seating, and a cosy, modern bar with armchairs.
We started with French fries and deep fried zucchini, zucchini fritti. Zucchini is also called courgette.
I had a glass of Prosecco at an affordable price.
My main course was a chicken salad with a boiled egg. The cooked chicken said spicey and I am not into spicey.
The pork casserole ordered by another diner came with potatoes so we were able to share the potatoes.
My dessert was a hard pastry tube containing what seemed like cream or cream cheese. My Italian friend told me that's how it is supposed to be. I think I would have preferred the lemon cheese tart which she ordered.
The atmosphere was lovely. Jolly. Three birthday groups. Busy downstairs and upstairs.
Buon App Restaurant is on the river Wharfe at Otley in Yorkshire. Plenty of parking outside. Children's high chairs. Ground floor toilet accessible to the wheelchair user, bigger than the upstairs cubicles, and with a bunch of flowers on the windowsill..

Birthday cakes from Zoe's Little Cake House
Birthday cake made by Zoe's Little Cake House. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.
The Accessory
This cake was made for a combined birthday part of an 80 year old man and his grandson's 17th birthday a week later. The grandfather\s daughter had ordered a cake to show the interests of the man, which included boating and his dog. The cake showed a dog in a boat.
The number seventeen is on the top of the cake. To not clash or lead to confusion, the numbers eight zero, for eighty, are vertical on the side of the cake.
A very effective feature is the upright semi circle or arch in off-white almost pale blue, either card or chocolate or icing sugar. it has clouds
A bride usually wears a white dress, and a white veil, and has a white cake. But pink and other colours can be used.
For my son's birthday we had a cake designed like a ski slope, with green trees and a skier.
Tall round cakes are 4, 5 or 6 inches, from 80--90 -100 pounds, feeding 12-20 people, in flavours including chocolate orange, with a covering of white or dark chocolate ganache. Unfortunately, collection only.
I am looking for a cake for a 50th wedding anniversary.

Up north to pubs and places in Yorkshire
Tourists go to York to see the Cathedral and walk around the ancient castle walls. You can shop in the Shambles and visit a museum or two. Yorkshire also has Bronte country and the steam railways and the railway which goes through Howarth area to the station where the film The Railway children was set. If you have already done that or have family or friends see the Pubs. My friend Tim went to a Methodist school, then a boarding school, called Woodhouse Grove, and the prep school was called Bronte House. Charlotte Bronte was a former governess to the family in the old house. The school now has surrounding modern buildings. Tim recalls stained glass windows.
Unlike London, which has red brick houses built of clay brick, notice the colour of the grey sandstone walls of buildings and boundary walls.
