Chiswick has an art deco railway station. An odd mixture of horizontal lines and curves. Art deco era is fond of curbed buildings and windows with brick shaped panes of glass. This station has the low flat roof effect beloved of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and a tall oblong chimney.
(Another example of an art deco station in north London is Rayners Lane. You can see all of them grouped together online. On the Metropolitan line to Rayners Lane you can see the Wembley arch.
From Chiswick you can see the Shard, a modern tower building which offers great views of London from inside. Go online to buy tickets for a special occasion such as a birthday.
Snack Time At Sainsbury's
Chiswick has lots of small terraced houses. A relative of mine visiting the area looked in vain for a Starbucks or Costa for a coffee stop. Eventually they found a Sainsbury's, the Chiswick Park branch. It has a cafe area.
I tried what looked like a yogurt or cream snack. The label said Made instore today. They have created a new fashion. Inshore. Like in-house. The yogurt or cream on top was good. The granola was a bit gritty. I munched cautiously. At the bottom was fresh fruit, red berries, in a kind of red jelly. Very good.
