Sevenoaks town in Kent - the name suggests seven oaks and you certainly see lots of trees around. The main landmark is Knole, home of the Sackville family who have been there since the time of Queen Elizabeth I and still live there now in in 2015 the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. You see a sign to Knole in the centre of town.
A pity it's not a city, which would have been alliterative. No cathedral, just a few churches. Traditionally in England you have to be a cathedral to be awarded the status of the name city, unlike elsewhere where city denoted the size, little towns, big cities. In many cases a cathedral attracted more residents, shops, employment, visitors people, so the cathedral and large size of a city went hand in hand, whilst a small town remained a small town, or market town.
The buildings are a pleasing mixture of the old and new. Driving in we spotted a statue on a building. Driving out we saw a plaque to a battle.
