Life in Singapore
Every day I wear a dress to entertain the family.
A friend in the UK asks on Facebook, "Can you go out in Singapore?"
You can. Wearing the mask issued by the government. You must observe social distancing.
Temperature taken on entering many buildings or a swimming pool complex.
Anybody over age, over weight, and over there, is likely to be ultra cautious.
A few places such as local supermarkets are crowded, but according to the newspapers, the tourist spots such as Orchard Road are empty. So are the airports.
Schools go back shortly but the children will be staying in social bubbles of five or six who work and play together. They bring their food from home.
The condo where my family rent a flat in Singapore has a swimming pool. Today, Aug 7, Friday, the sign-in desk area has a new temperature taking device on the wall. You lean towards it and eventually you manage to get near enough without, heaven forbid, actually touching it. Up pops the number for your temperature in centigrade.
I was hoping to be able to buy the temperature taking device. The attendant told me, "We are keeping it for the kits."
I was puzzled. 'First aid kits to carry around."
"No. I keep it here on the desk. To take the temperature of the little kits, too small to reach up."
"Oh, the kids! The children."
"Yes, ma'am."
