RSPB Coombes Valley nature reserve is hosting a Christmas Trail to get the whole family feeling festive from Saturday 19 December to Thursday 24 December.
Take part in the self-guided trail to discover more about the reserve’s wonderful wildlife during the festive season. Families can pick up everything they need in the visitor centre before venturing out onto the play trail to look for clues.
They will be given a ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ song sheet with a wild twist to help them discover why Christmas is a wonderful time at the reserve. From building a badger set to discovering the creatures that make our fairy houses a home, this trail is guaranteed to get everyone roaming the woodlands in search of the next clue
Once all the clues have been found and the song sheet is complete children can collect a festive treat at the visitor centre.
Becky Blackman, spokesperson for RSPB Coombes Valley, said: “Winter is a wonderful time of year to wrap up warm and get outdoors. The Coombes Christmas trail is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about our wintry woodland creatures, enjoy the play trail and explore the woodlands”.
The Christmas Trails are self-guided and will run during visitor opening hours from 9 am to 4 pm with a cost of £4 per answer sheet and a 20% discount for RSPB members.

I'll give you a quick look at Ostrich:
I must admit I wondered why
The ostrich is not designed to fly ...
...an ostrich gives a nasty kick
So you should never trust her
But on the other hand
her feathers make a lovely duster.

Pigeons: - frank talk about a Hawk
by Angela Lansbury
Pigeons pale and quickly vamoose
Whenever a hawk is on the loose ...
As it's turkey season, I'll quote a couplet from my poem on the turkey. It begins:
The turkey's fine tail spreads like a fan
If it wears a beard, that bird is a man...
The book is educational and amusing. Read more on lulu.com
