How they applaud in the UK, Asia and the USA - snippet

In England when you applaud somebody they don't clap themselves. If a VIP is announced, everybody else claps. You can identify the VIP by looking for the person who is not clapping.

You can't do that in Singapore. People clap themselves. Yes, they really do.

To me it looks very odd in Singapore when Asians clap themselves. Surely they can't be so boastful as to applaud themselves.

Englishman, Malcolm, says that Americans applaud in the same fashion as Asians. When an artist such as a singer or actress is invited on stage the audience claps. The singer then turns to the audience and claps, clapping them as a thank you to them for clapping her or him.
