You have written a book or speech for a foreign audience. How many people will understand? How much will they understand?

Translating From French
When I went to France with a group of travel writers and journalists, I offered to translate for a friend who spoke no French.

Many technical words, the longest words, were the same, because they came from Greek, or sometimes Latin.

Sometimes the whole meaning was clear because of one vital word. For example, I could summarise the subject: 'They are talking about the 'year' they started 'designing' the car. They are telling us to 'look' at the 'list' of specifications in the 'handout'. They are talking about what the consumer will spend on a car. they expect the cheaper car to sell more. But they hope the dearer one will also do well. They say it will be launched in July. They are thanking the mayor for attending the event. They are telling us to stay on for dinner.'
