Transparent masks, are they useful for travel security checks, lip-reading and photos?

Photo from Facebook.

For an event where you will be photographed, a see-through 'mask' is handy.

They are cheap, too. I bought one from the pharmacy at the airport for about two dollars. I kept being asked to remove my mask for security checks.

However, I found the big masks are a nuisance. Nowehre to put them on the aircraft. You cannot lower it around your neck, unlike my cloth masks to which I add a shoe lace or lanyard to be sure I do not drop the mask in the dirt or lose it when in transit.

If you are organizing an event such as a conference or award ceremony, or the photography, ask attendees to wear or bring with them some see-through masks. You might invest in buying them in bulk and giving them as a free gift to every person attending.

For hygiene reasons, you would not want to pass the see-though mask from one person to another. If you are asking attendees to bring masks, tell them the nearby suppliers. Or allow time.

Have a couple of spares in case somebody forgets.

The magic words for searching on the internet are mask clear window; smile mask, visible, transparent, window, smile mask.

Useful Websites

You might also check out transparent facemasks for the hard of hearing who need to lipread.

The featured mask websites seemed very expensive.
But maybe some were for packs of more than one mask.  This was not clear to me.

When I linked through to the cheapest, the website warned one of their masks was not medically guaranteed. But what do these words mean? Does it really matter if it merely means that hospital standard masks are higher grade and nearly 100% safe rather than mostly safe - if you wear them properly. Do you need wire to keep them against your face?

They do point out that you could make your own mask. Some are guaranteed up to 40 wears. Some warn you to hand wash - which I do anyway because of the stringy parts which could get caught and because any elastic could be weakened by the extra tossing and pulling and heat.
