Romania Song Translated polyglot, including Yiddish (based on German), Hebrew, Russian, Romanian (based on Latin/Romance)

 

The first verses are in Yiddish which is based on German, whilst the later verses wich you can hear in some versions are in Romanian based on Latin, from which are derived Italian, Portuguese and French.

You will probably recognize the words Bucharesti (Bucharest, capital of Romania), mazel tov, Hebrew for luck good, meaning good luck.

The first half of the song is in Yiddish, which is based on German. Oy poyim vestri trey mashlini, Ashum bidar lekhmutchini, Ekhley gutsi, ekhley gutsi Tey yu beste makh-ma-chev - are actually some Romanian verses: Ai, foaie verde, trei măsline, (M-)Aș iubi, dar n-am cu cine, E drăguță, e frăguță, Te iubesc de mă sfârșesc. Oh, green leaf,(and) three olives, I would love (make love), but I don't have who(m to), She is pretty, she is (like a) mulberry, I love you until I am finished.
