I was going t
hrough my papers to throw away old items when I came across a supermarket newspaper from Romania or fro a Romanian supermarket or coffee shop in London. I had saved it when I noticed that some words were sufficiently like English to be recognizable. Here is my list.
Firstly, the two things I remember about Romania and the language. The name Romania comes from when it was conquered by the Romans who were just across the sea. So many Romanians speak Italian. First because of the number of Italian tourists. Also because students come to Romania when it offers cheaper or more accessible courses.
What's more, there is some French influence. The word merci, for thank you, comes from the French.
