Problem
Welsh words for months are nothing like English words. How do I start to register the words so that I can find a memory aid and remember them.
Answer
First list the words. Then look for similar letters. Find a sentence or an idea that links the Welsh word either to the letters in the English word or the time of year.
I use grammarly which I downloaded to correct spelling and grammar.
Mis means month.
Hydref is fall or autumn. HydreF - Fall/autumn. But Mis Hydref (month of autumn) means October.
You add Mis in front of each month.
English - Welsh
You can spot the months because they have capital letters.
January -
February
March
April
May
June
July
August - Awst (Both words start with A and end with ST. Push the two vowels U together to get W.
September - Mis Medi (Think of the Chinese mid-Autumn festival. Medi.)
October - Mis Hydref - Fall or autumn month.
November - Mis Tachwedd - Turn the w upside down to make M, reverse be to get ed. No as in November, is is not December but touching December, Tachwedd.
December - Mis Rhagfyr (r-hag-fyr - Looks like - the rag of the hag makes a fire in December.
