DUNDEE CAKE - WHAT IS IT AND WHERE TO BUY IT OR HOW TO MAKE IT

Dundee cake from Wikipedia. Article on North British Dundee Cake by author RGloucester with their own photo.

Dundee cake is apparently a favourite at tea time of  HRH Queen Elizabeth. The cake comes from Scotland. The story goes that N
Mary Queen of Scots liked fruit cake but not the traditional candied cherries, so a new version was made for her with blanched almonds.

Dundee cake decoration
Dundee cake is instantly recognizable. It has almonds on top, like fingernails, arranged in circles, sometimes with alternating lines so that the second row almonds are placed inside the outer row, with the larger end in the top of the gap between two almonds in the row below. Immediately recognizable.
