Tanglin Club's Churchill Room For Superb Crepes Suzette

What was most memorable part of the meal? The crepes Suzette dessert.

 I previously had the crepes Suzette in the grand, huge, Churchill Room. When I later had it downstairs in the cosy, Tavern restaurant, it was served up on the plate, no drama.

Back in the Churchill Room for a farewell dinner for a member of the family off travelling, we ordered one crepes Suzette, and one melting chocolate dessert. Both were fantastic. Lemony, cloying sauce on the pancakes. Chocolatey chocolate, lip-smacking good.

Greeting

The hallway has flowers.  

But let me go back and start at the beginning. Yes, on arrival at the Tanglin Club, we saw a new flower display in the centre of the lobby seating area. 

The picture of Winston Churchill is on the outside of the Churchill Room restaurant. 

We had red napkins, not the usual white ones with the buttonhole. The tablecloths were black, with black covers on the chairs. A bit funeral. Was it because of Queen Elizabeth?

Staff said it was in preparation for the evening dinner. For new members of the club. 

Why Monday Lunch?

We opted for the set lunch. Lunch is usually cheaper than dinner. However, we had wanted to book for dinner but the restaurant was fully booked for dinner time, by an event for new members. 

Wine

We had chosen Monday because that is the day when corkage is not charged. You can bring your own wine. My husband brought a red wine. He asked for an empty carafe to decant it so the wine could breathe.

I ordered Prosecco. It was a good Prosecco with fine, tiny bubbles and an aroma.

Bread

The bread was in three styles. Black white and covered with seeds. I wish they had reminded us that the bread was hot! 

Starter Salad

I ordered a salad, which was in three colours, red tomatoes, green, and white cheese. Memories of the tricolore (three colour) salad you so often get in Italian restaurants, which evoke the Italian three colour flag of red, white and green stripes.

Main Course

The main course was served under a metal dome. Kept hot. A surprise. Drama.



My main course was chicken. In a brown sauce. Tasty. 

Then the dessert!

Dessert

Absolutely the best part. That's why I started with mentioning it. The Crepes Suzette scored on drama as well as taste and presentation. Most memorable.

Finally, we had coffee in cute Nespresso cups, saucers, and an elegant small, dinky milk jug.

On the way out I stopped to read the menu displayed outside. The Churchill has a seasonal Indian meal to celebrate Diwali in October.

Afterwards it was raining. We went upstairs to the library. I read half a book on how to give TED talks. Useful.
