Travellers Can Borrow A Book For free (or a small donation) Libary At the Station, England, Israel

New Zealand flag

The first borrow or leave a bookbox and shelf I saw was at a guesthouse in New Zealand.

The owner said a few people had left books behind on one occasion. He left them out for the next guests to borrow. gradually the collection grew.

The next project I saw was on Hatch End station. The book lending service had a dual purpose. help travellers waiting for a train or travelling on a train, and collect donations for the charity which had provided the bookshelves.

Israel
Israel is in the top ten of countries with the world's highest literacy rate in the world, number four, after Russia and China and Canada, ahead of the USA and UK.

The Israeli railway network now can connect you from Haifa in the North to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beer Sheva. They have libraries at the stations. A whole list of stations where you can collect and leave books.

Singapore flag

Singapore doesn't yet have books at stations. Singaporeans are mostly busy looking at their mobile phones.
However, Singapore has mobile library kiosks parked in Community Clubs. the Community Club has stocks of leaflets on local activities, events, courses, government information on services and subsidies. Often a seating area with a copy of the English language Straits Times or a Chinese newspaper.
Clubs such as the Tanglin Club have a reading room with newspapers.
Many hotels have a free newspaper left over from those delivered to the bedrooms. Ask the hotel concierge or reception desk.

You can borrow an umbrella for crossing the road.

USA flag

The USA has pickup points at libraries for after hours collections.
